Slope stabilisation work on the go on Kloof Road

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced its slope stabilisation work along Kloof Road in Clifton. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2025 if all goes as planned. Work will be done between 07:30 and 17:00, Monday to Friday, and while no night work is planned, there may be weekend work during the same hours.

‘Following the July 2020 collapse of an embankment on Nettleton Road in Clifton, the City had to put up temporary stabilisation structures. This week I can confirm that the permanent stabilisation work has begun. The project will result in a safer road reserve, improved slope stability and a more aesthetically pleasing environment,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The scope of work includes the stabilisation of the embankment through the installation of ground anchors or soil nails, and sprayed concrete, as well as shaping and drainage control as per the approved design.

Portions of the concrete structure will be clad with stone to improve the visual impact. Additional work includes the installation and connection of permanent services, as well as the construction of asphalt surfaced kerbside parking.

Kloof Road will remain open to traffic throughout the duration of the project. Traffic will be accommodated with minimal disruption where possible, and appropriate signage will be in place.

‘The work along this section is part of our commitment in keeping Capetonians moving by undertaking regular maintenance and rehabilitation work. I thank local residents for their support while this is ongoing,’ said Councillor Quintas.
